Bubbles Before and After School Club has been registered since September 2006. It operates from a mobile unit within the grounds of Wesley Methodist Primary School. All children have access to several, secure outdoor play areas. A maximum of 40 children aged from three to under eight years may attend at any one time. The club is open each weekday from 07:30 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 17:45. The Club is managed by an independent provider, who currently employs three additional staff. All staff hold appropriate childcare qualifications.

The Effectiveness of the provision

Helping Children to be healthy

The provision is GOOD

Children's health is well promoted as staff follow effective procedures for keeping the play environment clean. Children are encouraged to eat healthily at meal times, each day they are able to help themselves to a selection of healthy foods. They are able to access fresh drinking water throughout the day. This allows children to be independent in their self-care and ensures they are well nourished.

Protecting Children from harm or neglect and helping them stay safe

The provision is GOOD

Children are made to feel welcome in the child-centred play environment. There are displays of the children's work, informative posters and a wide range of toys and activities available for the children. The resources and activities are age appropriate and offer the children lots of choice. Children are able to access their own toys, which are easily accessible.

Staff supervise the children very well at all times to ensure they are safe.

Comprehensive policies and procedures are in place.

Children's welfare is safeguarded well because the staff team have a sound knowledge of child protection procedures and issues.

Helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do

The provision is GOOD

Children thoroughly enjoy the time they spend at the club, they are busy and have fun. Each day the become engrossed in their play as they participate in a range of well planned and organised activities.

Helping children make a positive contribution

The provision is GOOD

Children are confident and have a high self-esteem. They are valued and treated with care and respect. They have many opportunities to make choices and develop their independence. Their independent needs are met as the staff have a good understanding and awareness of how to accommodate the varied needs to the children.

The good partnership with parents and carers ensures that children are provided with good quality care which is consistent with parents wishes.

Organisation

The provision is GOOD

The effective organisation and management of the club ensures that it runs smoothly and provides the children with enjoyable activities. There are comprehensive policies and procedures in place which are followed well by the staff. The staff team work very well together, with clear systems in place to ensure that they communicate with each other about the children's needs. They are a very committed team, who keep up to date with current child care issues by attending training events. They use their knowledge in practice to provide good quality care for the children.

Overall the provision meets the needs of the range of children for whom it provides.
